Artist Commentary: The Misery Poems belong to a series I began a year ago when I participated in The Poeming, in which poets were assigned a Stephen King book as a source text. Mine was Misery. I’d written found poetry before, mostly plucking words from the page and planting them elsewhere. With this project, I decided to leave the words where they were and see what grew up around them. Sarah J. Sloat joined the living in the 60s. She was born in New Jersey. She is now of Europe. It’s a short walk to the beach. Sarah is a feminist non-believer who works in news. She loves nature, in theory. She is overly fond of the great British novelists and the aphorist Georg Christoph Lichtenberg.
